Illiteracy is not just ignorance; it is often the difference between freedom and bondage. A sense of shame and insecurity constantly haunts the illiterate.
Millions of women and children in the rural areas of India are deprived of their basic rights as human beings and are victims of modern day slavery, child prostitution and AIDS, just because of illiteracy. They did not have the opportunity to go to school, cannot read or write, and are isolated from the rest of the world. Each year thousands of children below the age of ten are becoming victims of the slave trade because of the growing illiteracy rate in India.
SANMA Educational Program
The Read India! program fights illiteracy in India on a community basis. SANMA opens and operates village schools, known as Community Educations Centers, across South Asia, where a local missionary teaches neighbors to read and write their own language. The SANMA teachers use the Bible and Sunday school books as textbooks.
By providing a school building, you will change a South Asian village forever.
